Evonne Hartel, age 96, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Tuesday, February 20th, at McIntosh Senior Living. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24th, at Mount Carmel Free Lutheran Church in McIntosh with the Rev. Karl Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, McIntosh. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Evonne Harriet Carlson was born on June 2, 1927, in Knute Township, Minnesota to parents Henry and Helga (Oppegaard) Carlson. She grew up in McIntosh and graduated, as Salutatorian of her class, from McIntosh High School in 1945. After graduation she moved to the Twin Cities for a time and then returned home.
Evonne was united in marriage to Orvin Gerhard Hartel on September 3, 1949, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in McIntosh. To this union seven sons were born, Lee, Roger, Kenny, Dean, Mark, Dale, and Jim. They raised their family and farmed in King Township. In 1987, they sold the home farm to their sons, Lee and Mark, and moved into McIntosh. Orvin passed away in 2008. She lived at her home in McIntosh for several years, then moved to Poplar Meadows. Since January of 2023, she has lived at McIntosh Senior Living.
She loved to read, do crossword puzzles, cook, and spend time with her family. She was a Charter Member of Mount Carmel Church and was the Sunday School Treasurer for 40 years. She was also a Life Member of the McIntosh V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Survivors include five sons, Roger of Northome, MN, Kenny (Nancy) of Wilton, MN, Dean (Lorri Ann) of Red Lake Falls, MN, Mark (Peggy) of McIntosh, and Dale of Hillsboro, ND; 19 grandchildren, Michael, Donna, Kara, Katie, Samantha, Joe, Melissa, Tim, Amber, Ashlee, Kristen, Tessa, Lindsey, Justin, Kim, Jesse, Julie, Stephanie, and Jeff; numerous great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Lori D’Augustino of Brandenton, FL; and sister-in-law, Ruth Carlson of Wisconsin. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sons, Lee and Jim; sisters, Ila Pederson and Lorraine Carlson; brother Lloyd Carlson; and great grandson, Branson Carsella. Blessed be her memory.
