Effie was born on June 24, 1916, in Oklee, Minn., to parents Daniel and Katherine (Donahue) Stoneouse. She was the youngest of eight children. She graduated with a degree in nursing and worked briefly at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Paul, before enlisting in the U.S. Army, where she earned the rank of First Lieutenant. She had many stories from her time overseas as a World War II nurse. She married David (Woodie) Lange Dec. 14, 1946. Effie spent her life caring for others. When she wasn’t caring for her boys, she was working third shift at the Winona Hospital, where she worked for the last 35 years of her 50-year nursing career, before retiring at the age of 70. In retirement, she dedicated much of her time to caring for her grandchildren and spent many days under the sun in her garden. She was an avid Twins fan and will now have the best view for baseball season.
She will be deeply missed by all her family who she so selflessly cared for and loved throughout the years.
A memorial is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday April 14, at Fort Snelling Cemetery in St. Paul, with military honors.
