Services for Donald Alick Amundson


Donald Alick Amundson, age 82, of Leonard, Minnesota, passed away on January 23, 2025 at St. Williams Living Center in Parkers Prairie, MN.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wilton, MN with a visitation one hour prior.
Don was born on December 3, 1942, in Bagley, MN, to Jacob and Evelyn (Adamson) Amundson. He graduated from Bagley High School in 1961. In 1964 he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany, France, South Korea and Vietnam. On April 22, 1969, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his heroism in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged from the Army on June 8, 1969.
On September 22, 1969, he married Rosemary Miller in Sisseton, South Dakota. They made their home in Shevlin, MN and raised their three children Penny, Jake and Joe. In 1984 they moved to Leonard and he lived there until his health declined.
Don was a skilled bulldozer operator/owner and also had his own organic fertilizer spreading business.
Don was a 40-year member of the Bagley American Legion; and a member Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wilton, MN.
Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, playing cards and cribbage, and most of all spending time with family, especially playing Skip-Bo games with his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife Rosemary, daughter Penny (Jerel) Nelsen of Staples, MN; son Jacob (Tamara) of Shakopee, MN; son Joseph of Leonard as well as six grandchildren: Noah Amundson, Sophie Amundson, P. Ancher Nelsen, Alick Nelsen, Samantha Kern and Trace Eddington; and sister-in-law Gayle Amundson of Fergus Falls, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Barbara Ricke, brother James and niece Kelly Amundson.
