Obituary for Myrtle Woods

Myrtle Amelia (Frazer) Woods, 98, of Oklee, MN sadly left us, Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Essentia Health, St. Mary’s Medical Cen ter in Duluth, MN.

Myrtle was born July 12, 1925 in Onigum, MN to Harvey and Amelia (Carpenter) Frazer. The oldest of 17 children, she grew up in a loving family, with strong moral values. She attended Cass Lake School until she left to help care for her siblings.

On August 22, 1942, Myrtle married Earl Francis Woods. They were blessed with 4 children: Shirley, Sharon, John and Alan. She traveled along with her husband while he was in the service. When he was discharged, they moved to Carmel, MN where they lived with Earl’s parents. In the 40’s, Myrtle and Earl moved to Roland, MN where they bought and ran a general store. When the store was closed in the 60’s, they moved to Oklee.

Myrtle worked for Oklee Manufacturing as a designer. While there, Arctic Cat had her design a few items for them. Arctic was so pleased with her, they hired her as one of their designers. After several years with Arctic Cat, she retired, yet continued working for Green Thumb, in the Senior Site Craft Store.

Myrtle was a very strong, independent creative lady, who lived on her own after divorcing. She enjoyed visiting, reading, growing flowers, and surprising her family and friends with her delicious baked goods. Ordean Nelson was her longtime companion, who was always by her side for 55 years.

Children: Shirley Jensen, Sharon (Doug) Rhoades John (Myra) Woods, and Alan Woods.

Grandchildren: Thomas (Kimberley) Jensen, Eric Jensen, Mindy Johnson, Marcia Adkins, Jack (Tracy) Lee Jr, Kay (Harold) Rhoades, Shawn Carlson (companion Tiffany), John (Ashley) Woods Jr., Toni (Mitch) Silverthorn, Jenny (Mike) Bohlmann. 

Great Grandchildren: Jada Jensen, Ethan Jensen, Trinity Jensen, Serena (Dave) Madden, Becky (Mark II.) Broden, Josh Senske, Shania Senske, Jack (Taylor) Lee III, Brandon (Lynsey) Lee, Kyla Rhoades (companion Angel), George Rhoades (companion Lauren), Sawyer Carlson, Beau Woods, Hannah Woods, James Silverthorn, Mataya Silverthorn, Amy Bohlmann, Brandon Bohlmann, and Abby Bohlmann.

Great-Great Grandchildren: Lily Mrytle Broden, Mark Broden III, Jack Lee IV, Kooper Lee, Hattie Lee, Brynn Lee, Scarlett Lee, Kody Roman, Vanessa Roman.

Companion: Ordean Nelson.

Survivors: Siblings: Joyce, Sandi, Earl, Carl, Bobby, Mike. And many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death: Her parents, Harvey & Amelia; Sons: John & Alan. Siblings: Eugene, Denise, Lois, Jimmy, Gene, Harvey Jr., Shirley, Charles, Beverly, and Norma. A Great Grandchild, Jada Jensen.

Mrytle is dearly loved and greatly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral Service to be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 308 Lambert St. Oklee, on Saturday June 22nd at 11:00 a.m. 10:30 a.m. Visitation before the service.
