Obituary for Myron McCollum

Myron McCollum, age 79, of Bejou, MN, died on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND.
Myron Richard McCollum was born on August 16, 1944 in Mahnomen, MN, to Richard and Myrtle (Brodsho) McCollum. He attended and graduated from Mahnomen High School with the class of 1962. He worked in road construction and served in the United States National Guard, earning an honorable discharge after 6 years of service. Myron took over the family farm in 1966. Myron married Sylvia Broske on September 30, 1967, in Winger, MN, and together they raised a family on the farm, passing on his love of farming to his sons. Over the years, he pursued various business ventures, including owning the Sand Hill Supper Club and The Other Place Bar in Fertile, MN.
Outside of work, Myron found solace in nature through hunting, fishing, and tending to his vegetable garden. He treasured moments with his family, delighting in the company of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed socializing over a cup of coffee with friends at the elevator in Mahnomen. He proudly served on the Mahnomen School Board for over 17 years and on the Cenex Board of Directors in Mahnomen. Strong in his faith, he held various positions at the Immanual Lutheran Church in Bejou over the years. Myron leaves behind a legacy of hard work, generosity, and community spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Myron is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sylvia McCollum; sons: Jonathan (Kristin), Matthew, Daniel (Nikki), Scott, and Adam (Carolyn); 12 grandchildren: Erica (Lane), Zachary, Emily, Trevor, Mickey (Sara), Riley (Camryn), Arran, Gabe, Tyler, Sydney, Adalyn, and Lauran; two great-grandchildren, Scarlett and Asher; siblings: David (Judy) McCollum, Darlene Benson, and Doreen (Orv) Turner; and aunt, Ethel Brodsho. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wayne McCollum; sister, Pat Mannie; and brother-in-law, Vernon Benson.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Lean To Tavern in Bejou. Inurnment will take place at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Mahnomen, MN, at a later date.
