Year In Review...

April 7, 2021
Saturday morning was a beautiful day for an Easter Egg Hunt in the town of Oklee. Many family's were gathering with their children. The Easter Egg Hunt is usually held in the Oklee Hall due to weather, so this was a blessing to have nice weather and have it outside.
Minnesota Severe Weather Awareness Week is April 12 through April 16. Severe Weather Awareness materials are available online and Tornado Drill Day is April 15th this year.
RLC 5th Grade Basketball team finished an excellent 2021 season. The boys learned important basketball fundamentals, how to play together as a team, represented RLC very well, worked hard, had great attitudes, and improved each day! 
January’s student of the month at Red Lake County Central was Elijah Rathsack who was nominated by Mr. Pakavan and Benjamin Lee who was nominated by Ms. Hamrum.
There was a bad grass fire on Monday afternoon that burned several acres and some equipment destroyed. There were six different fire depts fighting it. It was not out yet by Wednesday evening. There is a burn ban on for North Dakota and much of Minnesota. It was mostly in the Glacial Ridge area.
April 14, 2021
Inter-County Nursing Service have scheduled first-dose COVID-19 vaccine clinics around the area that are scheduled from Tuesday, April 13 to Wednesday, April 21 in Oklee, Brooks, and Pummer in addition to TRF.
On Saturday evening just east of Red Lake County Road 10, there was a large grass fire. Looked like it was near the rice paddies. It appeared to be a controlled burn.
We had a very nice rain last week, it came nice and slow and the ground was able to suck up the wonderful moisture. We have been on the dry side, it is would have been a tough spring without the rainfall.

The farmers were beginning to go the fields and picking rocks or tilling a bit around their fields last week. The tulips are coming up, but not quite ready to bloom.

In early April, FEMA will begin providing financial assistance for funeral expenses incurred after Jan. 20, 2020 for deaths related to coronavirus (COVID-19) to help ease some of the financial stress and burden caused by the pandemic.
As fire season deepens and expands, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has added more counties to the burn restriction list. The state will not issue burning permits for brush or yard waste in 33 of 87 counties until the restrictions are lifted.
February Students of the month at Red Lake County Central High was Madeline Inda-Valdez and Jamie Flatgard, who Mr. Baril nominated.
Jessie Hamrum was Speech Coach of the Year for Subsection 31A and Section 8A.
The JO girls got 3rd place in the MSF State Championship, April 17th, tourney was located in Becker, MN. They are an 11/12 traveling JO volleyball team. It's girls from Oklee/ Plummer, team is named the Lady Rebels.
Temps have been about 20° below normal. Hopefully, the farmers will have warmer weather for seeding. That northwest wind coming from our friendly neighbors in Canada is more than refreshing. It is downright uncomfortable.

The RLCC High School presented the play CLUE - High School Edition. Seating was limited due to Covid regulations. Cast members were: Director Tyrell Hamrum,  Danny Guillemette, Rubon Osborn, Emily Kolstoe, Karena Melby, Oliver Russillo, Luci Svendsen, Anne Dolan, Lillie Lundeen, Hannah Dudycha, Hunter Dudycah, Jonathan Roue, Guy Bergeson, Peyton Williams, and McKenzie Hamm. 
Brooklyn Bakke, daughter of Joanie and the late Dennis Bakke and a sophomore at Lincoln High School, recently passed her Senior Solo Free Dance to become a three time US Figure Skating Gold Medalist.
Dee Kjuava from Tri-County EMS donated a new Stair chair to the Oklee Ambulance Service. This stair chair will be used to help assist a patient for transporting a patient from their location at time of need, to the ambulance.
Caught Being Good at RLCC Elementary were: Jack Dodson, Jeremy Schuh, Brooklyn Anderson, Brynley Kvasager, Natalee Hendrickson and Addisyn Jensen.
There seems to be a warming trend up coming. They predict 60’s and 70’s in the next two weeks. Those predictions are nice to look forward to but we have been fooled before.

RLCC Elementary had two winners in the VFW Auxiliary Youth Art Contest. Harper Morinville received Honorable Mention ($10 prize). Violet Tvedt 1st Place Winner! Her drawing has been sent on to the District VFW Auxiliary for judging at that level.
On Monday, May 3rd, work began on the Oklee Street project. The County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 53 (1st Ave), Main Street and 2nd Ave (CSAH 22) in Oklee were reconstructed 20 years ago and are in need of reconditioning.
Caught Being Good winners for April were: Brielle Reinbold, Emily Rathsack, William Mostrom, Chayton Lamb & Marvin Stauffacher, and Brooklyn Anderson.
Congratulations to the Red Lake County Rebels Boys Basketball team and coaches on a great year with an overall record of 11-5.
State Speech was held on April 24th virtually in the RLCC High school classrooms. At the start of the season, each speaker would be in their own classroom where they would compete. Because of Covid, there was no traveling involved this season. There were 24 speakers from all over the state.
