Year In Review...

January 6, 2021
Numbers were dropping in Polk, Pennington and Red Lake for Covid that week.
There was lots of activity in the area with the Enbridge Line 3 finally going in.
It has been hazardous in the Oklee area due to the number of wild turkeys crossing the road near the Zion Cemetery.
The City of Oklee has been busy installing new ceiling tiles throughout the building and new LED lighting.
We have a little bit of snow, the Christmas Holiday and New Years Eve are over and we started a brand new year. Sadly, we have heard that Joyce Hardecopf and Ernest Mostrom have passed away.

On January 5th, the re-organizational meeting was held for the Red Lake County Commissioners.
We have had frosty mornings on January 5th & 8th With the mild winter and frosty trees it makes everything look beautiful and sparkly.
Mrs. Shannon Converse is the new Kindergarten teacher at the Red Lake County Central Elementary School.
Ben Wattenphul is the new music teacher at Red Lake County Central Elementary School. Wattenphul was looking for work in the schools around Thief River Falls, where he lived.
Krista Bernstein is the new office assistant at RLCC Elementary School.
In the National news - We are in troubling times in our country. On Wednesday there was a riot at the capitol building in Washington D. C.

On January 11, 2021, the Oklee City Council meeting was held and Lori Gulseth is  the new Oklee Mayor.  
Congratulations to Rae Martinson our "2021" Spelling Bee Champion and to Alexa Chervestad who came in 2nd place.
December Students of the Month at the Elementary were Parker Klasen and Reese Lambert.
It is getting cooler outside and winter is evident. We are glad we are not hitting the 30 below weather.

What’s in The Ginger Junker in McIntosh? What isn’t? The 10,000 square foot space is artistically arranged with groupings including anything from rust and dust, vintage milk glass and pottery displays to household furniture from any decade.
On Tuesday, January 19th, the Red Lake County Central
Mustangs Wrestlers hosted the Cass-Lake Bena Panthers and the Fertile Beltrami Falcons. The Mustang started the dual out against the Panthers. The dual started weights out at 106 and went to 145 without the Mustangs having anyone competing. 
It was Paraprofessional Recognition Week at RLCC Elementary School - Pictured in the paper were Debbie DuChamp, Amber Kvasager, Gin Berns, Karen Vigstol, Deysi Lucio, Alicia Timm, Linette Trebesch, and Vicki Gustafson.
Shyla Styles was the Senior High Student of the Month for November. She is the daughter of Denise and Jeremy Styles.
The weather has turned colder, but it is still a very warm winter. And most are very grateful for the lack of snow. However, the snowmobilers and farmers are really wanting some snow. One for riding and one for the moisture it brings.
Victor Schiefert of Plummer died last week.
Betty White, actress, celebrated her 99th birthday the weekend of the 16th.
