Red Lake County Fair - 4H program, Senior Day and Baja were well attended

The Red Lake County Fair this year was much scaled down as compared to past years, but with the restrictions of Covid-19, just starting to loosen up it was difficult to make plans to far ahead. So the Fair Board decided to concentrate of three areas of the fair. The 4-H program, the Senior Day and the Baja races.
Thursday night, June 24th people could bring things in for the open class and the 4-H kids were busy also bringing their livestock to the barns  and items to the school.
Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. the American Legion Color Guard presented the colors and raised the flag to open the Fair officially.
Many people continued to bring in items for the Open Class and 4-H. Shortly after that the judging began.
At 1 p.m. the Senior Citizens gathered at the Oklee Hall. There were people from all around the county coming to see the "Looney Lutherans". It was a large crowd of about 80 seniors ready for the show, which was wonderful and afterwards, a light lunch with a beverage and then BINGO.
Lots of nice prizes were given out and each round of Bingo there were 3 winners, then you cleared your board for the next round. The last round was a black out which also had three winners.
There were booths set up in the gymnasium for Garden Valley, Inter-County Community Council and Red Lake Social Services. Hope everyone signed up for their give-a-ways.
Also Saturday, the 4-H held their Style Review and other events.
Saturday was a beautiful day and there was lots of traffic along the highway as many trucks pulling their racers were heading to the South Park where the Baja Races were being held.
The Garnes-Go-Getters had a booth out there serving icy pops in nicely decorated flannel holders, water, chips and pop. The Bite Me Grill from Plummer had a food truck out at the site and looked like lots of burgers and chips were being served.
The races are set up as heats of 6-8 cars in a group of 4 cyl. or 6 cyl. or 8 cyl. Those heats were first on the track. The winners of those heats get to go out again in the finals. The 6 cyl. and 8 cyl. trucks were the next heats and again, the winners of those heats are in the finals.
The Oklee Herald is waiting for the official results to publish in next weeks paper.
Sunday, there was still some activities in the school with the Open Class and the 4-H exhibits and at 2 p.m. the 4-H held their awards program. These kids benefit from the generous donations from many businesses in the County. It is greatly appreciated by the 4-H kids and they work hard to earn the awards.
By 4 or 5 p.m., most everything had been pickup up, put away, and plans for next year were on list of to do's.
Hopefully, next year, the Red Lake County Fair Board can plan a full Fair with lots of activities for all ages and fun for all.
