Northern Exposure to Lifelong Learning Started with a Journey of Vintage Textiles

Northern Exposure to Lifelong Learning kicked off the Spring 2026 season on April 8.  The weather once again tried to show out with cold temperatures and wind, yet that didn’t deter over 40 guests who attended the program on Exploring Vintage Textiles 1860’s to 1960’s with speaker Bonnie Lundorff, held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Ebro Corner.  

Bonnie took guests on a walk through quilting history between 1860 and 1960, brought numerous quilted items including multiple quilts and other artifacts from rugs to quilts, and everything in between. 

She shared what was useful for early quilts; curtains, feed, flour and sugar sacks.  People were hired to design fabric. When JC Penny and Montgomery Wards came along blocks came printed.

Bonnie is not an appraiser, in her words, “I just love old textiles, collecting and doing research on them. She went on about proper cleaning techniques, how to repair damaged items and if beyond repair ways to repurpose.  Bonnie discussed how to label quilts as well as proper ways to display them.
