More events planned for 2015 Oklee Market Day on August 8th

Oklee Market Day is almost here and there are more events than ever.
This year the Committee has added a Northern Pullers Tractor Pull contest to be held on August 8th. If you like to pull tractors, come on down to Oklee for a fun day of pulling with your favorite tractor or two.
Also this year, the weather has cooperated with the celebration and there will be the Tractor and Plowing Demonstrations this year. Last year the event was canceled since the crops got in so late there just wasn't a field available for the plowing demonstration.
For the first time ever for Oklee Market Day, Men's Softball Tournament will be held on August 8th. 8 team maximum and wood bats only will be allowed. Call or text Isaac Melby to register at 218- 230-8960 or email: okleelum@gvtel.com. Starting time is 10:00 a.m. and they will be playing at the fields on the
East side of town.
Other additions have been to add some other fun events such as barrel rides for kids, and other kid games. a dunking tank and a Sidewalk Chalk Art contest.
The Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest starts at 9:30 outside of Oklee Quilting. Your project must be complete by 1:00 p.m. and winners will be announced at 1:30 p.m. There are three categories: Age 5-8; Age 9-12; and Adult. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place. Please bring your own chalk. A limited supply will be available if needed. Preregistration is preferred. The Annual Run for Paul 5K Walk/Run with registration at 7:45 a.m. on the south side of the RLCC High School in Oklee and the run beginning at 8:30 a.m. Cash prizes to be awarded in three categories. At 9:00 a.m. the Craft Show has many vendors lined up with a variety products & vendors in the Oklee Community Hall. A great day to shop for yourself or a special gift for someone. And we always have room for the vendors that didn't get signed up earlier. Contact Jo Lambert at 218-796-4527 or

There will be the Oklee Market Day Quilt Show at the RLCC High school building in Oklee starting at 9:00 a.m. There is always a fantastic display of quilts made by many local talented quilters and a great place to get ideas on quilts you may want to create. The Tractor & Plowing Demonstration will begin at 10:00 a.m. If you want to plow you need to bring your 1960 or older tractor and plow to the south side of town. Watch for the signs and if you want more information contact Mike at 218-688-9558.
At 10:00 a.m. the street will be filling up with classic cars and tractors for the annual Market Day Car and Tractor Show on Main Street. Registration is required for the Car show and you can contact Mandy at 218-684-0716. And while you stroll around the show, enjoy the talented DJ Wild Wes.
By this time you should be looking for some great food and there will be food vendors around town. The Zion Lutheran Church will be selling burgers (with or without cheese), fried onions, chips, beverages, and added this year, pie and ice cream. The American Legion will be selling brats, chips and beverages.
And don't forget the Oklee Cafe, Oklee Cenex C-Store & Deli and TJ's Tavern for food choices also.
The fun continues at 1:00 p.m. with the return of the Backseat Driver Contest. You and your partner test your blindfolded driving skills for cash prize. This is a fun event to watch or participate in. At 2:00 p.m. is when the Northern Pullers Tractor Pull begins on the north side of D & R Grocery store. The cost for pullers is $10 a hook. And don't leave town after all the daytime activities, because there will be more fun at TJ's Tavern in Oklee with music and fun with Urho. If you missed them at the Fair, here is your chance to enjoy a band that really plays it all - Country - Rock - Everything!!!
