Memorial Day Programs held at Oklee and Plummer

Memorial programs were held in Oklee and Plummer on Monday, May 29th in honor of Veterans who are no longer with us.

The Oklee program was held at the Red Lake County Central high school gymnasium. The guest speaker was Kurt Ellefson, a 2004 graduate of Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls. Kurt went on join the Minnesota National Guard during his senior year of high school. After completing basic training at Fort Benning Georgia, and AIT in December of 2004, Kurt returned home to Red Lake Falls. On October 1, 2005 his unit was activated and shipped out to Camp Shelby, Mississippi for a six month train up before being deployed to Iraq. His unit spent 18 months in Iraq before returning home. Kurt came home to his wife LeAnn and 4 year old daughter Rylee. In the time since then, they have grown their family to include five children. Kurt is the Red Lake County Veterans Service Officer.
