Local K9 Unit is 1 of 30 finalists in SUV giveaway

Your vote can make all the difference! Marshall County Deputy Sheriff Cody Gillund and K9 Eva are one of 30 finalists who are eligible to win a new SUV for their K9 Unit from nonprofit Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

There is still a lot of time left in the contest, which gives us a huge chance to show the nation how well our community pulls together! Deputy Sheriff Cody Gillund says a lot of votes are needed to compete with some of the major news coverage the other teams are getting across the US. Out of the 30 teams, there are some larger agencies in the running with a lot more exposure than our small community. “The winner last year had 35,000 votes out of 150,000 total,” Gillund shared. “Please vote as often as you can! The repeat votes are the only way to compete with the metro areas,” he added.

Not only would our Marshall County K9 Unit win the custom-fitted SUV, it would make for one heck of a birthday gift for K9 Eva, who turns 6 years old on November 13th.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c(3) non-profit whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the country.

Since 2009, the organization has donated:

• 800 K9 opioid reversal NARCAN Kits

• More than $75,000 of K9 medical insurance premiums through our Healthcare for K9 Heroes program

• Over $25,000 in K9 medical first aid kits

• One Chevy Tahoe custom fitted for a K9 Unit valued at over $50,000

All of their programs are made possible with funds raised through contributions, grants and fundraising events.
