Julia Bernstein was selected to represent Minnesota and the Red Lake County Rebels Track Team in the Down Under International Games this coming summer. She will be one the 2017 Minnesota Centra conference Track and Field Team. She will depart for Queensland, Australia on Sunday, July 2, 2017 where she will compete down under for individual honors and a team championship title.
Julia is a sophomore and she is on the Red Lake County Rebels Track team. She has competed with the varsity track team for the past two years and has qualified for the Regional Track meet in each of those seasons.
In 2015, she and her teammates, Josie Huot, Megan Lacrosse and McKenzie Williams set the school record for the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:20.14.
In 2016 Julia qualified for the Regional Track meet in the High Jump competition. This spring she will again be competing in the 4x400 relay, 300 hurdles and high jump and has her sights set on the State Track Meet in June.
Each participant must raise money to cover the cost of the nine day Australia Tournament Package.
Down Under International Games was founded in February 1989 and based on the dream of a New Zealander by the name of George O’Scanlon. During the past twenty-seven years, Down Under Sports has had the opportunity to share the land down under with tens of thousands of individuals from across the United States. George also started the Down Under Bowl which eventually led to the establishment of the Down Under Hoops Classic and the Down Under International Games.
Some prior standouts of the Down Under Bowl include Jake “the Snake” Plummer (Denver Broncos), Ahman Green (Green Bay Packers), Rob Morris (Indianapolis Colts), Dave Dixon (Minnesota Vikings), and Jesse Williams (Seattle Seahawks).
Julia is excited for this amazing opportunity and hopes to make Red Lake County proud when she competes in Australia this coming July.
She is the daughter of Krista and Mitch Bernstein of Oklee.
