Grygla Fire Department assists DNR in two wildland fires last week

“Wild fire conditions are only going to increase in the next month,” says Adam Fisher, a forester from the Grygla Forestry office.

Last Thursday, the Grygla Fire Department responded to the DNR’s request for structure protection, near the home of Matt and Jennifer Sundberg, northwest of Caramel Road in rural Grygla. The department arrived on the scene of a wildland fire at approximately 3:30pm and assisted the DNR with water supply. Structures were in no immediate danger, however, the water tender remained at the scene until approximately 10:30pm. 

DNR officials put out the wild fire with the assistance of the local fire department.

Saturday, March 26th, the department was called out again by the DNR at approximately 8:30pm for assistance, east of Jelle Road, north of Ditch 20. Crewmembers assisted with wildland fire suppression and were released of duty around 1:30am; no structures were in danger.

Adam Fisher, Grygla Forestry Department, reminds us to be aware of wild fire conditions and always use safe, careful practices. 

No burning bans are currently in affect, however, burning permits are required. On April 4th burning restrictions will go into place. During the burning restriction period, only variance permits for agricultural operations are issued, and only from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Forestry offices.

Wildfires start and spread easily in the spring when grasses are brown and warm windy days are common. Spring burning restrictions have significantly reduced the number of wildfires that occur in April and May.
