Gonvick City Council. January 8, 2026

The Gonvick City Council met in regular session on Thursday, January 8,2026.

Minutes were approved from the December 11, 2025 meeting.

The 2026 annual appointments were approved. With no changes from last year.

Clearwater County Sheriff Darin Halvorson was present to give his six month report on the county. They had 7, 576 total calls with 170 in Gonvick. They had 17 burglaries compared to 9 of last year. The jail population was up to 23.8 from 19 last year. They are full staff now with a couple of part-timers filling in where needed.

Clearbrook-Gonvick Police Report was given by Ryan Solee. They are also under budget and there will not be an increase for the year 2026. He will be attending a training in April 9.

He had 13 records for the month which included: Assist Other Agency with vehicle off road 1; Death 1; Disturbance 1; Information Only 1’ Medical 1; Property Damage 1; Suicide Related, Disturbance 1; Traffic Stop 1 and vehicle Lock Out 1;

Cody Rude, the Gonvick Fire Chief gave his report form last month. They had 1 work night, 5 medical calls, 1 false alarm, 1 training session on the neris report system,

The fire department attended the Pine Lake races and Charps in Clearbrook let the department use their Sherp as a response vehicle on the ice.

The department had a two-weekend training course set up with the Blue Fire for EMR and Lucas training. The department received the grant for the compression system, which is a mechanical device for CPR, teaching medical staff how to quickly apply it to provide high-quality, uninterrupted chest compressions during cardiac arrest,

The Gonvick Fire Department will be hosting the north region fire department meeting on April l9, 2026 in the Gonvick Fire Hall. Departments will be coming from a wide area               including Bemidji, International Falls and Grand Forks and areas in between.

The skating rink has been used but with the warmer weather will have to wait to get it flooded more. Cory Solberg had been working hard to keep it going.

The Clearwater County Attorney agreement was approved for the year starting January 8, 2026.

The city council is looking at the sale of the old Vandy’s lot in Gonvick. They would have to approve a resolution authorizing the potential sale by auction, describing the property and the development conditions. They would then publish a notice of the sale and accept bids that are consistent with the requirements. At the next meeting they will be discussing what needs to be in the resolution.

Mayor Sue Sims had been at a meeting of all the Clearwater County Mayors and with Tony Klaer Community Development Planner from the Headwaters Regional Development Commission. The council was to identify priority projects both in individual cities and between communities.  The council would identify community infrastructure needs to pursue funding opportunities.

Bills were paid in the amount of $2,766.92 for water and sewer, $25,948.23 for General $3,230.34 for fire for a total of $31,945.49.
