Congratulations, Class of 2020

We sure witnessed our community coming together over the weekend. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our way of life the last couple of months, cancelling many important milestones and events along the way, including graduations. But the communities of Grygla and Goodridge set forth in their plans to put together special days for their 2020 graduates, while still taking precautions and giving them memories to last a lifetime.

Grygla held its commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 16th, at 2pm. Goodridge held an informal ceremony on Sunday morning, May 17th, with a formal ceremony to come in August, which will be open to the public.

At both places, on each day, the sun was shining bright and the breeze was warm as students and their families pulled onto the football field and parked their vehicles, remaining inside until the students’ names were called to receive their diplomas. Administration members opened each ceremony, student addresses were given, a small handful of staff from each school were also in attendance and the ceremonies were safely conducted, with 25 graduates between each school receiving their diplomas.

After the ceremony in Grygla, a parade was led by the Fire & Rescue Department, where seniors drove a designated route down the streets, waving to family and community members. The opposite was done in Goodridge, with the public being the parade! Seniors and their families were set up along the street where a long line of cars drove through, waving and wishing them well.

It was nontraditional, in every sense of the word, but SPECIAL, nonetheless. SPECIAL, MEMORABLE, EMOTIONAL and HAPPY are the words that come to mind. I’m sure these seniors and their families can all agree.
