Oklee Market Day was held on August 1st, 2020. Hand sanitizers were available at all the events through out the day and hand washing stations were near each event.
To start off the day, 15 painted rocks were hidden in the City of Oklee. As of when this picture was taken in the afternoon, there were a few rocks still missing. The purpose was to find "Da Rock" to win prizes. The rocks spelled out "Oklee Market Day."
Hero Hustle 5K registration was at 8:00 a.m. with the race starting at 9:00 a.m. at the Oklee Veteran's Memorial Site. The 5K is promoting Organ Donation and all the funds raised will be going to "The Second Chance for Life Foundation" in Minneapolis, MN.
There were 14 men and 37 women this for a total of 51 participants. The first place winners each received a first place ribbon and everyone received a participation ribbon.
This year there was an option of a virtual 5K which was very successful.

The Quilt Show sponsored by Oklee Quilting Supply went virtual this year. There were a lot of beautiful quilts entered. The winners were picked and displayed in the window of Oklee Quilting Supply, Inc., featured as a banner. The winners were: Lois Boehrnsen, McIntosh and Florence Tvedt, Plummer. Thank you to all the quilters for entering.
Crafters and Vendors were be set up in the Oklee Community Hall this year from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There was pretty jewelry, coasters, and other fun items at Jodi's Country Side Creations booth. Jodi is originally from Oklee and is the sister of Gelene Lundeen, who had the Norwex booth at the hall along with her husband Vincent with delicious baked goods and jellies.
Also there was two gals who do beautiful handmade cards, Jessie Hamrum and Natalie Hamrum. Tri Valley Opportunity Council had a booth set up with lots of information and promotional items, and the best smelling booth, called Inga & Elvie, was selling lots of soaps and candles made by Elaine Burslie & Jessica Shimpa. They are from Mentor, MN.
The Sidewalk Chalk contest has been a fun time in the past. I will have the winners in next weeks paper, so watch for photos and winners list.
The Car Show was well attended and there were quite a few cars lining the Main Street of Oklee. There were nice older cars and some nice newer cars. A few unusual cars and some popular cars. Nice show. And winners will be listed next week.
The Old Fashioned Street games consisted of the three-legged race, shoe kick, egg toss, fastest popsicle eating contest, and beer guzzling for the adults.
Down at the Park on the corner of 4th & Main, there were Corn Hole tournaments with 7 or 8 games going at once and Pickleball Tournaments with five teams playing Round Robin. Hopefully will have the results for those competitions for next week.
An Alumni Softball took place at 4:00 p.m. at the field on the east end of town. Last years game had lots of players and a good sized crowd watching and cheering on their favorite team or player.
In the evening there was entertainment sponsored by the Oklee Volunteer Fire Department called, "Fun Pianos! The Dueling Piano Show." The show was held outside under the tent erected on the corner of 2nd and Main between the Oklee Community Center and TJ's Tavern of Oklee. Presale tickets were sold at area business for $25 a ticket and there were a limited amount of tickets due to the CDC guidelines because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
And all day long there was delicious food being served a a variety of locations throughout the City of Oklee.
Hope everyone had a great time and more news to follow.
