American Legion Post 159 holds Flag Day ceremony at Oklee Area Veterans Park

For the a couple of years, except in 2020, the American Legion Post 159 has held a Flag Day ceremony to dispose of Flags that are torn and damaged properly according to the Flag rules of the United States.
This year it was only Legion members and their spouses and other family members that gathered. Most years it has been advertised for the public to attend the potluck meal and ceremony.
Commander Rick Dulka thanked everyone for coming and explained this would be shortened ceremony. Chaplin Don Stenberg gave an invocation. Inspection of the flags was done by members of the American Legion while the fire was started.
Once the fire was going well enough, the American Legion members added flags to the flames. Once burned the ashes are disposed of in a burial in an undisclosed area so they are not disturbed.
It is a ceremony that is important to members of the American Legion as all Legion members have given time from their lives to protect and preserve the American way of life, liberty and justice throughout the world.
