2020 Year In Review...

October 28:
The Huot Hustlers 4H Club cleaned ditches for our Adopt A Highway service project. We have been cleaning this stretch of highway for 30 years!
Pictured in the paper were Carson Melby who got a nice 12 point buck this year, and Sadie Fox with her first deer. A six point buck. 
The RLC Boy’s Cross-Country Team attended the Section 8A tournaments in Bagley at Twin Pines Golf Course on October 13th, 2020. The Girl's Cross County Team attended on October 14th. The RLC Rebel Boys’ team took 17th place overall. The RLC Girls Cross Country placement was 15th.
2020 Inductees in the RLCC Honor Society: Shawna Majeres, Aurora Mitzner, Natalie Vettleson, Damon Ferguson, Aurimy Olson, Marissa Schiebe, Paige Olson, Lauren Jones, and Madelyn Inda-Valdez.
It is cold outside today. I think the thermometer read 16 this morning. More like pre-winter than Fall. It has been so cold in fact that the snow that fell on Thursday is still on the ground. 
November 4:
Mr. Paul Nelson is the new science teacher at RLCC High School. 
Lisa Sorenson is a new paraprofessional at RLCC High School. 
Emma Hendrickson, daughter of Richard and Jamie Hendrickson got this nice buck during the recent Youth Hunt.
In September Hannah Dudycha was honored as Junior High Student of the Month. Kia Bachand was honored as Senior High Student of the Month.
September Students of the month at the Elementary are 3rd & 4th grade - Brynley Kvasager and 5th & 6th Dylan Lundeen.
For Halloween, a few volunteers w/Sue Beaudoin’s help, made Halloween treats to go in the Meals on Wheels lunches on October 30th.
November 11:
On Tuesday, November 3rd, Oklee was the site of a Farmer To Families Food Box Pickup. The food truck came in early that morning and with the help of staff from ICCC and the Honor Society students from RLCC school in Oklee, the boxes were unloaded and set up. 
Trunk or Treat winners for best displays were: 1st place: Sue Carriere; 2nd place: Sue  Sami Smith; and 3rd place: Leif, Jill and Ava Kolstoe.
Nick Cervantes joined the RLCC as one of our new custodians and bus drivers. He said, “The main reason I was interested in RLCC was to work closer to home so I could spend more time with my family during the week.
The RLC Rebels improved their record on October 30th when they hosted the Red Lake Warriors.
The RLCC Mustang Volleyball team hosted the Crookston Pirates on Thursday October 29th. The Mustangs won in three sets with scores of 25-16, 25-22, and 25-22. 
Halloween evening, McKenzie Malwitz had a Halloween Party for her kids, Merrick and  Mickalynn, Jason and Becky Malwitz, and kids, Wayne and Vicki Malwitz and also a couple of friends and their kids. They played games in the garage.
It was warm, the leaves got picked up and the yard work got mostly done. The deer hunters got warm weather to tramp the woods over the weekend. Wow, for nice weather! Now we are turning the corner for winter.
November 18: 
Zion Lutheran Church got a face-lift which started last year when many of the windows were replaced. But the front had not been finished. To access the windows in the front of the church, the bushes and other landscaping items were removed to make the job easier.
RLC Rebels Cross-County Teams held a Virtual Awards night. Keira Morinville, Caden Lee, Peyton O'Neill, Brock Tvedt, Brody Moen, Marissa Schiebe, Ella Moen, Everett Svendson, Azazel Champan, Emma Knott, Daphne Harmoning, and Elizabeth Lytle were award winners.
Due to Covid-19, Oklee and other towns have decided not to hold their Santa Days.
RLCC have been notified of several positive covid-19 test results and then have traced many more “close contacts” in both schools affecting over 25% of the student population and some staff. Following consultation with MDH, MDE and our staff and school board, we will be changing from In Person learning to Distance learning. 
The weather is cooler and winter is trying to remind us that she is on her way. Little spits of snow here and there seem to appear and tell us what is coming.
November 25:
Oklee Lutheran Parish (Salem & Zion members) worked on making quilts to donate. This fall they donated 87 quilts to Violence Intervention Project (TRF), Pathfinders, Clear Water Life (Gonvick), Crookston Missions, Veteran's Administration, and Dialysis. Zion's Graduate student Jacob Olson, also received a quilt. 
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on November 18th, in a statewide- televised address unveiled new  restrictions that went into effect Friday, November 20 aimed at curbing the skyrocketing numbers of Covid-19.
Essentia Health in Fosston will restrict visitors of hospitalized patients began Monday, November 23. Like other health care systems, we are taking this step to keep our patients and staff safe during a time of high community prevalence. Visitors will not be allowed in our hospital except in special circumstances and at the discretion of our care teams.
Mrs. JoAnn Lundeen is a new paraprofessional at Red Lake County Central High School.
Football season has come to an unfortunate end for the Red Lake County Rebels. Due to Covid 19, the Rebels have had to shut down their season for the year as many other schools across the state. 
Red Lake County Central Mustang Volleyball players are also wrapping up the 2020 season due to Covid-19 restrictions.
The deer hunters season was over and the hunters had a good time. Many were successful, but they think there’s a lot of deer still out there.
The weather has been rather nice for this time of year. There is hardly any snow on the ground and only in some spots. The temperatures are good and not below zero yet.
December 2:
At the Commissioners meeting, Erik Hove, County Engineer outlined the 5 years plan.    The Oklee Street Project was approved this year and will move forward. CSAH 22 & 53 going through Oklee will be resurfaced and sidewalks around the route will be redone to make them ADA compliant.
It is cold this morning and the temps are around 11 degrees with a north wind that bites. It promises to be a Christmas that we have to take stock and be happy to count our blessings.
December 9:
Red Lake County Central High School will be in person on December 7, 2020, after being in the Distance Learning Model since November 16, 2020.
Canadian Pacific donated to local food banks, host virtual  concert for 2020 Holiday Train.
RLC Rebels chosen for NW District All-District Team were Isiah Olson, Zach Howard, and Carter Williams. Honorable mention were Damon Ferguson, Paul DeHate and Bailey Hince.
December 16:
Kristie Peterson is the new cook at Red Lake County Central High School Kristie works in the kitchen with Val Paradis and Char Gagner.
Mrs. Angel Bergeson switched her position in the Elementary this year, she was a fourth grade teacher to a librarian/STEM/Art teacher.
Skip Bergeson is the new head custodian of Red Lake County Central High School.
December 23:
Ms. Kristal Kozicki is new to our staff at the RLCC Elementary as a fourth grade teacher!
December Students of the Month: Mrs. Tvedt nominated Bailey Culkins and Everett Svendsen was nominated by Mr. Huie. Red Lake County Central Elementary students of the month were: 5th & 6th-Natalee Hendrickson and 3rd & 4th-Logan Lee.
December 30:
The New Year is close upon us. Christmas was pretty quiet for some of us and a real day for reflection in some cases. We still had our traditional foods but not on such a large scale as other years. The food was still carefully crafted and cooked as usual. The leftovers took a bit longer to get cleaned up but it was good.
