Grygla/Gatzke March School Board Minutes

 

The March Minutes were approved at the April meeting and are included below for your reference.

Present: Nicolette Leach, Shaunna Olson, Karina Tinnes, Charisa Limesand, Jim Verbout, Principal Lunsetter and Superintendent Clow. 

Pledge of Allegiance was said and the following were approved: agenda as presented, last month’s meeting minutes and the payment of the bills.

Student Report: Given by McKayla Vad and Lucian Tinnes. Next week is Spring Fling, with coronation on Friday afternoon and dance Friday night from 8-12 with AVS DJ. There will be dress-up days and penny wars, among other activities. The Student Council Summit was 2/25/15, and Alison Satre will be a representative on the Northwest Division Board. The Student Council State Convention will be April 11-13, 2015, and there will be seven local students attending. Student Council members have continued volunteering monthly at the Grygla Food Shelf. Betsy Saurdiff took student Chelsey Peters to German Camp 3/19 through 3/22/15. Vocal ensembles and duets will be performing at competition on 3/24/15. Senior high art students will be attending the art festival on 3/25/15.     

Teacher Report: Given by Gene Lunsetter and Renae Westbrock. Track practice will start Wednesday, 3/25/15. The elementary celebrated I Love to Read Day & Dr. Seuss’s birthday by decorating their classroom doors this month. The sixth grade class has taken over the recycling duties in the school. Music students attended the large group contest; choir earned a superior rating and band earned an excellent rating. Eight students will be going to the ensemble competition.           

Principal Report: Given by Principal Lunsetter. The sixth grade and senior class trips were reviewed. The 2015-16 school calendar was reviewed. Athletic calendars for 2015-16 are attached to the school calendar. Evaluations have been handed out to basketball players and coaches and have started coming back in. The track schedule this year (Spring 2015) has separate practices three days a week with Grygla and Goodridge at their own schools and together on Tuesdays and Thursdays; each school only has to drive one day per week. There are minimal changes to the daily schedule for the 2015-16 school year. Brian Loe has been working with Principal Lunsetter on the College/Career Readiness document to prove the district is meeting or addressing nine key points. Interquest, the company with drug detection dogs, was discussed; it is important to continue having them come.         

Superintendent Report: Given by Superintendent Clow. The two new buses are running well, with only a couple of minor issues. 

Sixth grade class trip was approved as presented, along with senior class trip, 2015-16 school calendar. The following donations were accepted: $1,779.45 from Lisa Swanson to purchase football capes; $175.00 memorial from the family of Armilla Lundin to support the music program; $100.00 from John Verbout for the construction class; $200.00 from Ida Stanley to Robotics for world competition 2015.

Trustee Report: It’s nice to hear that graduates from the Grygla/Goodridge schools are now respected teachers & citizens of neighboring communities.
