With great sadness the family of John Henry Godtland announces his passing on Tuesday October 19th, 2021 at the age of 67 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN.
John was born July 19, 1954 in Fosston, MN to Arne and Lucille (Homme) Godtland. He was baptized in Trail and confirmed at Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick. He began school in Gully and graduated from Gonvick High School in 1972. He worked on the Godtland Family Farm until his retirement in 2014. He also worked at Team Industries in Bagley for 15 years. He was so proud to work there and loved his job and co-workers.
He married Terri (Edeen) on October 5th, 1985 at Dilworth Lutheran Church. They purchased the Hendrickson Farm which is one mile from the Godtland Family Farm in 1987. There they raised their two beloved sons Brady John and Evan Michael. John was so happy to welcome Darcie Olson into our family when Brady took her as his bride on January 1, 2021.
John was a kind, gentle man who adored his family. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially deer hunting and fishing. John shared his passion for hunting with everyone and would give you all the tips and tricks to get the big buck. He looked forward to when his nephews and good friends would come up to go hunting. Visiting was one of his favorite pass times along with playing cards with his buddies in Gully.
As John’s health declined, he was sad that he was unable to participate in the activities that he loved but his faith became stronger, and his family and friends became even more important to him. Towards the end of John’s journey, you would find him smiling while singing well known hymns and some he made up himself. He was filled with such joy when he would tell us of his glimpses of heaven, and he chuckled when he told Terri “everyone gets in”. He wanted everyone to know how much he loved and appreciated them.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Terri; Children Brady (Darcie) of Gully, MN, Evan of McIntosh, MN.
Siblings: Jeff Godtland of Palm Springs, CA, Linda Helland of Grapevine, TX, Barbara (Rick) Fischer of Sauk Centre, MN, Rhonda (Matthew) McGivney of Long Beach, IN. Numerous nieces and nephews and his many hunting buddies.
Proceeded in death by his parents Arne and Lucille (Homme) Godtland of Gully, MN.
A Celebration of John’s Life will take place on Monday October 25, 2021, at Samhold Lutheran Church, Gonvick, MN. A time of remembrance with family and friends will start at 10:00 a.m. the service will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a lunch to follow.
