Largest pumpkin ever weighed in Gonvick

The largest pumpkin that had ever been weighed at the Gonvick Pumpkin Day on Saturday September 30. The record 2,242 pound was grown by Wade Klema and JJ Solberg. The crew took the pumpkin down to Anoka for a weigh off event that was held there Sunday October 1. The group was elated as they took first prize at 2,237. With the trip to the cities the pumpkin lost a few pounds. This was the 30th year of the annual event in Gonvick and a lot of the events were done in honor of Wade Klema who has been dealing with ALS. A 60 birthday party was held in his honor on Friday night.
Other winners in the Gonvick weigh off were: 2nd Tucker Johnson 1,341; 3rd Susanne Olson 909.5; 4th Jack and Leo Nordland 898.5; 5th Zach Buss 713; 6th Bryson Fiedler 671; 7th Ray Norman 645; 8th Bobby Edevold 625; 9th Wayne & Lori Bergh 624; 10th Katie Haaven 549 who brought her pumpkin up from Iowa.
Youth division winners had several entries and the top ten winners were: 1st Maverick Fiedler 540; 2nd Bynn Stefanich 458.5; 3rd Wayne and Lori grandkids 387; 4th Cianna Olson 308.5; 5th Bria Sather 307.54; 6th Colt Pletschett 178.5; 7th Wren Pletschett 172; 8th Dawson Eck139; 9th Emma Eck 118 and 10th Vadia Pletschett.
The five winners by the Car Show held on Saturday with all the other events were from left to right: Daphne Kelma,1961 Cutlas from Gonvick; Leslie Lien, 1958 Chevy truck from Gonvick; Steve Flerstad, 1964 Impala from Fosston; Ron Grube, 1972 Custom Deluxe from Pembina, North Dakota and Jason Bergman, 2023 Bronco from Gonvick. The names were selected by votes from the 97 car show participants. Each winner received a trophy and $100.
The big pumpkin drop filled with candy was at a 127 foot drop on a large boom. The equipment was brought in by Christiansen Industrial Developers from Bemidji.
The tug of war between three fire departments from Clearbrook, Bagley and Gonvick. The event and the $5400 donated by the Gonvick Jubilee Committee was won by the Gonvick Fire Department.
